Western At Home

Trying to bring the west into your home can be tricky. Especially when the rules keep changing. We asked some leading designers from the west about how to achieve the new, more "refined" look in western decor and here's what they said...
"In  wanting to capture a different, new, more "refined" western decor, one should not hesitate to use materials more commonly associated with European, formal and traditional styles such as crystal (as in chandeliers), lace or silk (as an alternative  to the much-used velvet in western decor) to add sparkle, elegance and softness as a balance for the more rustic, primitive elements. The same theory can be applied to the interior finishes, which certainly can include more polished finishes as in wood, tiles, etc...everything need not appear to be splintery, rusted, dusty...unearthed from an old ghost town!"

Steffany Hollingsworth, Designer

"Start with choosing a color scheme for paints and fabrics and not to clutter it up too much."

"Great design is not broken...so don't try and fix it...stick with the classics. Watch an old episode of Bonanza."
