Western Home: Western Decor: Navajo Inspired Rugs: Navajo Rug Recreations: Wearing Blanket Collection Wearing Blanket CollectionThis diverse Collection offers both the classic Wearing Blanket and Serape designs, as well as other examples of particularly unusual and interesting blankets. The Classic Serapes were woven by the Navajo from about 1800 through the 1860's and are often considered to be the greatest achievement in the long history of Navajo weaving. The majority of classic serapes had a background color of red, with a variety of designs and colors featuring combinations of stripes and stepped or terraced diamonds. The Navajo woman's two-piece dress consisted of two matching blankets, usually woven with a solid brown or black background with stepped red or indigo bands at top and bottom, often incorporating crosses, diamonds and other terraced motifs. Many of the rare designs in this collection are now housed in major Museums of American History throughout the country. Call us for other designs in addition to those displayed here. | |||||||||
